About Friends Education Fund, Inc.
Purpose: Funding for tuition aid for Friends children in Friends schools. Principal: $1,688,872 market value (FY 07-08), annual income $90,459 (FY 07-08,) Tuition Aid grants administered by the PYM Committee on Friends Education.
Organization Description – December 2003:
Founded in 1953, FEF is a separately incorporated charitable organization [501(c)(3)] operating under the care of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) with the mission of raising funds to support tuition aid to young people attending the thirty-one Friends (Quaker) elementary, secondary and special needs schools in the greater Philadelphia area. In the last decade, the Board of Friends Education Fund has further clarified its mission to focus exclusively to support tuition aid for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting children who meet published criteria and who are attending schools operating in the greater Philadelphia area. The income of Friends Education Fund endowment goes directly to Philadelphia Yearly Meeting on an annual basis (subject to annual board approval) to support Philadelphia Yearly Meeting’s tuition aid for member children and young people in elementary, secondary, and special needs Friends schools in the Philadelphia area.
About The Committee on Friends Education
The mission of the Committee on Friends Education is to advance the cause of Friends education within Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. The committee's work falls within the following areas:
- Supporting Friends schools and their Quaker character;
- Supporting Friends children in Friends schools;
- Educational grant making;
- Collaborating with Friends Council on Education;
- Being a champion for Friends education.
CoFE has responsibility for determining the dollar amount of tuition aid distributed, making any changes to distribution policies, and overseeing the distribution of PYM tuition aid funds to Friends schools.
